Avril graduated from Dundee University with an honours degree in Law in 2003 and joined Hewitt & Gilpin as an apprentice later that year.Â Avril was awarded her professional qualification with distinction by the Institute of Professional Legal Studies of Queenâ€™s University. Avril joined the practice as a solicitor in 2005 and is based in the Private Client department.
Avril has wide experience in all residential property matters in acting for private clients, social landlords, banks and other lenders. She also acts for a number of substantial private residential developers. She specialises in advising investor landlords, particularly in relation to duties imposed on them under the private tenancies legislation and has recently been awarded the Certificate in Private Tenancy Law & Practice by the Institute of Professional Legal Studies. Avril is also a part-time course tutor on the conveyancing course run for trainee solicitors by the Institute of Professional Legal Studies.
Avril particularly enjoys acting for elderly clients in drafting wills and Enduring Powers of Attorney and advising in other related matters. She also deals with the registration of Enduring Powers of Attorney, and in making Controllership applications to the Office of Care and Protection of the High Court.
